Russian intermodal container transportation company TransContainer reported rail container volume in the first nine months of 2012 totaled 1.1 million 20-foot-equivalent units, rising 10.2 percent from 1 million TEUs in the same period in 2011, mainly because of an increase in import and transit transportation.
Domestic transportation volume from January to September rose 2.9 percent to 0.6 million TEUs. Revenue-generating transportation volume was 0.8 million TEUs, increasing 12.2 percent year-over-year, and terminal-handling volume during the same period was 1.1 million TEUs, dropping 9.0 percent from last year, mainly because of a 36.8 percent decrease in handling of medium-duty containers, the company said.
TransContainer’s revenue jumped 24.5 percent in the first nine months of 2012 to 27.4 billion Russian rubles (about US$890.8 million). Profit during that period spiked 42.8 percent from $97.5 million to $139.2 million.
