Spot U.S. intermodal rates were broadly flat this week, avoiding the downward direction seen on several major lanes in recent week, according to rate data compiled by IDS.
An average of rates on west-to-east lanes was flat versus last week at $2,505 for an all-in, door-to-door 53-foot intermodal move. That rate had fallen 25 percent since hitting $3,327 in early October as the peak season trailed off.
An average of rates on east-to-west lanes was flat at $1,778 versus $1,779 last week. That average had fallen 24 percent since late November.
An average of north-to-south lanes was down $2 to $1,989, while an average of south-to-north lanes was down $1 at $1,749.
Several lanes were unchanged from last week. Los Angeles to Dallas was unchanged at $2,425. Los Angeles to Denver was unchanged at $3,070. Los Angeles to New Jersey was unchanged at $3,455. Los Angeles to Miami was unchanged at $4,275.
Chicago to Denver was unchanged at $2,595. Chicago to El Paso was unchanged at $1,585. Chicago to Los Angeles was unchanged at $1,795. Chicago to New Jersey was unchanged at $1,530.
