A 9 percent jump in intermodal volume lifted Hub Group’s profit in the second quarter by 18 percent year-over-year to $16.9 million.
The Downers Grove, Ill.-based company’s revenue rose 3.6 percent to $778.3 million in the same period. Intermodal revenue increased 9 percent to $432 million from the same period a year ago, while revenue from subsidiary Unyson Logistics jumped 13 percent to $84 million.
Truck brokerage revenue fell 11 percent year-over-year to $80 million, and Mode Transportation, a logistics and brokerage subsidiary, saw its revenue rise 1 percent to $194 million in the second quarter. The company ended the quarter with $52 million in cash.
