For the week ending Feb. 16, U.S. carload and intermodal volumes rose after declining the previous week, according to the Association of American Railroads.
Carload volume grew 1.9 percent over the prior week to 278,596 trailers and containers. Although the volume is up 15.3 percent since the first week of 2013, it is still 1.2 percent lower than it was at the same point in 2012.
Intermodal volume rose 2.6 percent from the prior week to 251,078 trailers and containers. A comparison to the same point in 2012 shows a 13.6 percent increase, and since the first week of 2013 it has grown 40.8 percent.
Canadian intermodal volume rose 5.7 percent year-over-year to 53,927 trailers and containers for the week, while carloads rose 1.5 percent to 79,336.
Mexican intermodal volume rose 1.3 percent over the same point in 2012 to 10,601 trailers and containers for the week, while carloads rose 11.5 percent to 15,919.
The AAR no longer reports container and trailer volumes separately on a weekly basis.
