Freight railroad company Kansas City Southern reported profit in the third quarter, ending Sept. 30, was $90.7 million, down 9.4 percent year-over-year from $100.1 million.
Year-to-date income was 286.9 million, up 21.6 percent from the $235.9 million from last year during the same period.
Quarterly revenue was $577.4 million, a 6 percent increase from $544.5 million last year. Revenue for the first nine months of 2012 was $1.7 billion, up 6.5 percent year-over-year.
Revenue was primarily driven by KCS’s five fastest-growing categories: automotive, cross-border intermodal, container traffic through Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico, crude oil and frac sand, President and CEO David L. Starling said.
