A CSX Transportation train hauling coal derailed shortly after midnight Tuesday outside of Baltimore, killing two women who were on the tracks, according to reports.
The non-railroad employees were killed when 21 of the train’s 80 railcars flipped in Ellicott City, Md., according to the Associated Press. No other injuries were reported.
“CSX wishes to offer its sincere condolences to their families,” a railroad statement said. “The company is supporting the investigation of the site under the direction of the National Transportation Safety Board.”
The two locomotives were hauling coal from Grafton, W.Va., to Baltimore when the train derailed on a overpass at the Main Street in Ellicott City.
