CN Profit Relatively Stable in Third Quarter

North American railroad Canadian National Railway reported its third quarter profit was C$664 million (about US$668.8 million), rising 0.8 percent from last year’s income of $663.8 million.

Profit in the first nine months of 2012 was $2.1 billion, up 11.0 percent from $1.9 billion year-over-year.

Revenue in the third quarter, ending Sept. 30, was $2.5 billion, an 8.2 percent increase from last year’s third quarter, mainly because of freight rate increases and higher freight volumes from growth in North American and Asian economies, the company said.

Revenue from January to September was $7.4 billion, up 14.5 percent from $6.7 billion in the same period in 2011.
