Canadian National Railway and the Indiana Rail Road Co. have agreed to cooperate on intermodal service between Indianapolis and Canada’s west coast ports, giving shippers in the Indiana-area another option for trade with Asia.
The service will reduce transit times from Asia, according to Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN executive vice president and chief marketing officer. He said the Canadian railroad’s level-of-service agreements with container terminal operators at the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, would ensure a smooth flow of cargo from ship to rail.
The two railroads are also working together on a new intermodal facility at Indiana Rail Road’s existing terminal in downtown Indianapolis. Service is expected to begin in June 2013.
