Canadian National Railway, a Class I railroad, will construct an intermodal ramp at its freight yard in Joliet, Ill., to offer importers and exporters access to distribution centers in the Chicago metropolitan area.
The new ramp will offer importers and exporters improved access to the Joliet-Will County area of Chicagoland, which has one of the highest concentrations of distribution centers in the U.S., Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, said in a written statement.
He added that CN expects to offer daily West Coast service starting in June 2013, with transit times of about 100 hours between the West Coast and Joliet.
Earlier this week, CN announced its plans to partner with Indiana Rail Road on intermodal service from the west coast of Canada to Indianapolis.
