Singapore-based Bengal Tiger Line has introduced a new container feeder service linking Krishnapatnam Port, India, with Colombo, Sri Lanka, effective this month.
The weekly service offers the following port rotation: Colombo, Krishnapatnam, Chennai and Colombo.
“This service provides a direct import connection from Colombo to Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal which will enable importers in the Andhra Pradesh hinterland to bring in their cargoes coming from Europe, the United States, Middle East, West Africa and East Africa,” Krishnapatnam Port said.
Krishnapatnam, about 112 miles north of Chennai, started container operations in September 2012. Built by Navayuga Group on a 50-year concession, KPCT has a quay length of 2,130 feet, a 44-foot alongside draft, 4,000 ground slots and an annual throughput capacity of 1.2 million 20-foot-equivalent units.
The Hyderabad-based project developer earlier indicated plans to expand KPCT’s capacity to 6 million TEUs in phases over the next four to five years.
