Sea Star Line President Peter Keller will become executive vice president of the ocean carrier’s parent company, TOTE, Inc., effective Jan. 1, 2014. He will be succeeded at Sea Star by Tim Nolan, who currently serves as executive vice president.
Keller, a former NYK Line senior executive, who joined TOTE in February 2012, has been leading the conversion of the company’s fleet to liquefied natural gas. Totem Ocean Trailer Express is converting two diesel-powered roll-on, roll-off ships to burn LNG, and in December 2012 TOTE announced an order by TOTE Shipholding for two LNG-fueled container ships that will be chartered to Sea Star for use in the trade between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico.
“It’s an exciting time for TOTE and the Puerto Rican trade,” Keller said. “The new Marlin class vessels that will enter service during the 4th quarter of 2015 are the first LNG powered containerships in the world. This significant investment in the trade, the environment and the Jones Act will create long-lasting, positive impacts for Puerto Rico.”
In his new role at TOTE, Keller will assist in the oversight of both TOTE Shipholdings and the TOTE Maritime Division, which includes Sea Star and Totem Ocean Trailer Express, which operates in the Pacific Northwest to Alaska market. He said he will continue to work closely with Nolan in developing the Sea Star business.
