Major container lines have announced planned rate increases for a variety of trades, as detailed below, slated to take effect in October and November.
Three carriers have planned rate increases for Nov. 1:
- Evergreen Line hopes to increase rates on all shipments between the Far East, including Japan, and the Indian subcontinent, and Europe and the Mediterranean. For trade to Europe and the Mediterranean, the hike will be $950 per 20-foot container and $1,900 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container. For trade to the Far East and the Indian subcontinent, the hike will be $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container.
- CMA CGM will attempt to raise rates on trade from Asia, including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh, to all northern European ports, including the U.K. and the full range from Portugal to Russia. The increase will be $1,000 per 20-foot-equivalent unit.
- ANL hopes to hike rates on its trade from Asia to North Europe, east and west Mediterranean and Black Sea ports by $1,000 per TEU, which was revised from the previously announced $750 per TEU.
Mediterranean Shipping Co. intends to boost rates on eastbound dry cargo from Europe to the Middle East and Asia, starting Nov. 4. The increase will be $200 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container.
Cosco Container Lines plans to hike rates on all shipments from the Far East to South America’s west coast and Mexico, beginning Nov. 9. The increase will be $1,000 per 20-foot container and $2,000 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container.
On the same date, Hapag-Lloyd aims to raise rates on all cargoes from East Asia to Mexico, Central America’s west coast and South America’s west coast by $1,000 per TEU. On Nov. 15, the container line also intends to boost rates on shipments from East Asia to the Caribbean, Central America’s west coast and Panama by $700 per 20-foot container and $1,000 per 40-foot container.
Hapag-Lloyd hopes to increase rates on its trade from East Asia, excluding Japan, to the Red Sea, by $500 per TEU, starting Nov. 1.
U.S. Lines has postponed its scheduled rate increase on cargo from Asia to the U.S. West Coast and East Coast, U.S. inland points and Canada, from Oct. 15 to Nov. 15. The increase will be $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high-cube container and $510 per 45-foot high-cube container.
