The Association of Canadian Port Authorities’ board of directors has selected Sylvie Vachon, president and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority, to be chair of the board for 2013-14.
The board also named Bernie Dumas, president and CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority, as incoming vice chair of the board, and Pierre Gagnon, president and CEO of the Port of Sept-Iles, as incoming corporate secretary and treasurer.
Vachon, a veteran of the maritime industry, joined the Montreal Port Authority in 1990 as chief of human resources, and later successively took on the roles of director of human resources, vice president of human resources and vice president of administration and human resources. She then managed numerous departments for port administration before assuming the duties of acting president and CEO at the MPA in March 2009. In August 2009, she was named permanent president and CEO.
Dumas, who has 30 years of experience in marine transportation and shipping, previously worked with Vancouver-based China (Canada) Shipping Agency. He was also the host of this years’ ACPA conference in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
The other five members of the eight-member board include: Sean Hanrahan of St. John’s Port Authority, Karen Oldfield of Halifax Port Authority, Mario Girard of Quebec Port Authority, Angus Armstrong of Toronto Port Authority and previous chair Robin Silvester of Port Metro Vancouver.
