President Obama on Wednesday tapped the acting administrator of the Maritime Administration to take the reigns of the agency permanently.
Paul “Chip” Jaenichen took the helm of Marad in June after David Matsuda stepped down from the post. The presidential nomination request was sent to the Senate for review.
The U.S. Merchant Marine, which Marad supports, faces numerous challenges including the threat of a shrinking fleet, as funding cuts tied to the federal sequestration loom.
