PTA Holdings is expanding its refrigerated truckload business, adding a baked goods shipper in San Antonio, Texas, to balance northbound and southbound loads.
The new customer provides bakery products to the fast-food industry. PTA’s refrigerated fleet will haul baked goods from San Antonio to Chicago and Wisconsin.
The northbound loads will help balance southbound refrigerated shipments of eggs and produce from the Midwest, said Tim Norton, vice president and director.
“Initially, the volume will be six to eight extra loads on a weekly basis into our Midwest service areas with an opportunity to expand,” Norton said.
PTA, founded in Nevada in 2005, has been expanding by acquiring small companies, targeting firms with $2 million to $20 million in annual revenue.
In June 2012, PTA acquired Kingsley Logistics Group. In the fourth quarter last year, the holding company acquired NortFord, an Iowa-based truckload operator and brokerage.
In the first quarter, PTA launched Eggspress Transport, a niche refrigerated carrier handling eggs and other products.
The company plans to acquire an intermodal drayage company in the Chicago region by the fourth quarter of this year.
