Norfolk Southern will hike its domestic intermodal rates in September.
Effective Sept. 15, the Class I railroad’s equipment management program rates published in open-ended Norfolk Southern price quotations will be increased by 2.5 percent. A customized file listing the affected quotes and the new rate will be provided to customers. The NS rate system will be updated with these price adjustments by Sept. 6.
NS also noted that rates for traffic destined to the Canadian Pacific railroad that are subject to the previously announced 3 percent increase, which went into effect on Aug. 15, will be excluded from this adjustment. Rates destined for Florida East Coast Railway are also excluded as a result of previously announced rate hikes.
Furthermore, also starting Sept. 15, the private container and trailer freight all kinds rates will be increased by 3 percent.
NS also boosted transactional EMP rates by 3.5 percent on Aug. 12.
The railroad’s total revenue dropped in the second quarter of 2013, although its intermodal revenue rose 4 percent year-over-year as volume increased from domestic and international gains.
