Australasia/Oceania to Far East Asia
Australasia/Oceania exported 167,800 20-foot-equivalent units to Far East Asia in June, up 13.3 percent from June 2012 but down 0.9 percent from May 2013. This is the first month-to-month decrease in this lane since January. In the first half of 2013, exports in this trade increased 11.7 percent year-over-year to 914,600 TEUs. The CTS rate index in this market slipped 1 point in June to 123.
Australasia/Oceania to Europe
Exports from Australasia/Oceania to Europe fell 3.5 percent year-over-year to 13,800 TEUs in June. Export volume plummeted 16.9 percent from May. Through June 2013, exports from Australasia/Oceania to Europe were down 3.9 percent year-over-year to 94,900 TEUs. The CTS index of rates in this trade decreased 2 points to 104.
Australasia/Oceania to the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East
Containerized trade from Australasia/Oceania to the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East reached 14,100 TEUs in June 2013, up 5.2 percent year-over-year but slipping 0.7 percent month-to-month. Exports from Australasia/Oceania in this lane during the first half of 2013 fell 6.4 percent year-over-year to 81,000 TEUs. The rate index slipped from 105 in May to 103 in June.
Australasia/Oceania to North America
Containerized trade to North America increased nearly 3 percent year-over-year and 1.7 percent month-to-month, to 17,700 TEUs. This was a rebound from last month’s uncharacteristic drop of 9.8 percent from the prior year. Exports from Australasia/Oceania in January through June inched up 0.7 percent from the level seen in the same period of 2012, to 100,800 TEUs. The CTS price index decreased by 2 points in June to 94.
Australasia/Oceania to South/Central America
Australasia/Oceania exported 2,200 TEUs to South and Central America in June, tumbling 26.7 percent year-over-year and 8.3 percent from May. This lane has not seen a positive increase over the prior year since September 2012. In the first six months of 2013, exports from Australasia/Oceania in this lane fell 17.2 percent year-over-year to 14,000 TEUs. The CTS rate index in this market jumped 7 points to 104 in June.
Australasia/Oceania to Sub-Saharan Africa
Containerized trade rose 13.3 percent year-over-year in June to 3,400 TEUs, rebounding from its first year-over-year decline in eight months in May. June volume rose 3 percent from May. In the first six months of 2013, exports from Australasia/Oceania to sub-Saharan Africa were up 2.1 percent year-over-year, totaling 19,200 TEUs. The rate index in this market remained flat at 94 in June.
