Indian Railways reported revenue-earning freight traffic in July totaled 86.21 million metric tons, up 4.9 percent or 4.0 million metric tons from 82.21 million metric tons in the same month in 2012.
The Indian state-owned enterprise carried 343.00 million metric tons of revenue-earning freight traffic from April through July, the first four months of fiscal year 2013-14, increasing 4.9 percent or 16.0 million metric tons from 327.02 million metric tons moved during the same period last year.
Revenue for Indian Railways was Rs. 44,260.16 crore (about US$7.1 billion) from April through July, rising 10.7 percent from Rs. 39,969.24 crore during the corresponding period last year. Total goods earnings rose 9.2 percent year-over-year to Rs. 30,492.06 crore for this year’s April to July period, from Rs. 27,924.26 crore from the same period in the previous year.
