Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores has approved the sale of two 6,500 20-foot-equivalent unit ships, in line with the Chilean carrier’s strategy of having larger and more efficient ships.
The vessels, built in 2006 by Hyundai Heavy Industries, will be sold to subsidiaries of Diana Containerships and will be chartered later on by CSAV for a period of 18 to 30 months.
The sale, which has no material impact on the results of CSAV, furthers the company’s ongoing fleet modernization plan. As part of the same plan, the company has acquired seven new 9,300-TEU ships, which will be delivered toward the end of 2014. The new ships will be funded by CSAV’s next capital injection.
