Diana Containerships has signed, through two separate wholly owned subsidiaries, two memoranda of agreement to buy two post-Panamax container ships from an unaffiliated third party.
The Puelo and the Pucon were both built in 2006 with a capacity of about 6,500 20-foot-equivalent units each. The purchase price for each vessel was $47 million. The sellers are expected to deliver the Puelo by the end of August and the Pucon in mid-September.
Both vessels are chartered to Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores in Valparaíso, Chile, for a minimum of 18 months to a maximum of 30 months. Including the two new vessels, Diana Containerships’ fleet will consist of 10 container vessels, including two post-Panamax and eight Panamax ships.
