The Port of Baltimore’s public marine terminals handled a record 9.55 million tons of general cargo in fiscal year 2013, from July 2012 through June 2013, besting the previous record of 9.33 million tons set in fiscal year 2012, according to Maryland’s Gov. Martin O’Malley.
In June, general cargo at the port’s terminals was up 4.6 percent compared with the same month last year.
Baltimore’s public piers have also set consecutive records for exported cars in one month. In May, 22,897 cars were exported from the Port of Baltimore, surpassing the previous high of 22,832 set in November 2012. In June 2013, the new record was eclipsed again when 22,997 cars left the port.
