International Transport Workers’ Federation representatives have resolved to organize a campaign targeting terminal operator DP World.
The representatives, who met in Chicago, agreed that action is required and published a resolution stating that they believe that DP World is “systematically attempting to undermine the wages and working conditions of workers all over the world by engaging in anti-union behavior.”
The resolution highlighted the situation at the London Gateway terminal in particular, as well as issues in India, Peru and Australia. It called on ITF members to develop and strengthen ongoing coordination of global union organization in all DP World terminals, and to organize a “global day of action” in September.
Furthermore, the resolution demanded that DP World recognize “legitimate unions” and begin negotiations for collective agreements in the affected terminals worldwide, and fully consult union representative when seeking to introduce automation at its terminals.
