Rail Service Center Rotterdam at the Netherlands’ Port of Rotterdam on July 12 celebrated handling its 5 millionth cargo unit since 1993.
Up until 2008, the container rail terminal grew by an average of 9 percent per year. However, the global economic crisis caused a dip, and the company now handles about 300,000 units per year.
On average, 45 trains are loaded per day, destined for various locations in Europe, led by Italy. The terminal also welcomes about 650 external drivers every day.
RSC Rotterdam also noted that it has been handling more short sea and continental (not sea-bound) traffic.
