Indian Railways reported revenue-earning freight traffic in June was 84.95 million metric tons, up 5.6 percent or 4.52 million metric tons from 80.43 million metric tons in the same month in the previous year.
The Indian state-owned enterprise carried 256.79 million metric tons of revenue-earning freight traffic from April through June, the first three months of fiscal year 2013-14, increasing 4.9 percent or 11.98 million metric tons from 244.81 million metric tons moved during the same period last year.
Revenue for the Indian state-owned enterprise was Rs. 33,497.09 crore (about US$5.6 billion) from April through June, rising 11.9 percent from $5.0 billion during the corresponding period last year. Furthermore, total goods earnings rose 9.4 percent year-over-year to $3.9 billion for this year’s April to June period, from $3.5 billion from the same period last year.
