Danilo Medina, president of the Dominican Republic, along with Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DP World’s chairman, officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the center, which is located between Port Caucedo and Las Americas International Airport. The facility will provide regional distribution services for foreign and Dominican businesses via Port Caucedo.
The first phase of construction will focus on the development of warehousing over 40 hectares (about 99 acres) in the next three to five years, with a further 198 acres developed in the second phase. The first warehouse is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of next year, although timing will be in line with market demand, according to DP World.
“This is an important milestone for us and for our partners at Caucedo Development Corp.,” Ahmed Bin Sulayem said in a written statement. “It opens the door for Dominican Republic importers and exporters to further improve the efficiency of their supply chains with modern facilities close to both the port and the airport.”
