The trade rebounded from the previous month’s uncharacteristic decline with a 16.3 percent year-over-year jump and a 16 percent month-to-month increase. Far East Asia exported 624,300 TEUs to the region in the January-April 2013 period, an increase of 12 percent year-over-year. The Far East Asia-Australasia/Oceania price index climbed 1 point to 92 in April.
Far East Asia to Europe
Exports from Far East Asia to Europe inched up 0.1 percent year-over-year in April to 1,157,800 TEUs. Exports were up 7.3 percent from March. In the first four months of 2013, exports from Far East Asia to Europe declined 1 percent year-over-year, totaling 4,452,800 TEUs. The CTS index of rates in this trade fell 3 points to 75 in April.
Far East Asia to India Subcontinent/Middle East
Containerized trade from Far East Asia to the India subcontinent and the Middle East increased 0.2 percent in April 2013 year-over-year and rose 1.8 percent from March 2013. Exports from Far East Asia to the region in the first four months of 2013 totaled 2,404,000 TEUs, inching up 0.7 percent over the same period in 2012. The CTS price index climbed 3 points to 82 in April.
Far East Asia to North America
Containerized trade from Far East Asia to North America rose 7.2 percent year-over-year to 1,392,700 TEUs in April 2013. This was the second month of year-over-year increases in this lane, although the growth pace decelerated in April from March's jump of 13 percent. Volume was also 9.3 percent higher than the volume in March. Exports from Far East Asia in this lane through April 2013 grew 6.8 percent year-over-year to 5,102,000 TEUs. The CTS index rose from 97 in March to 98 in April.
Far East Asia to South/Central America
Far East Asia exported 313,200 TEUs to South and Central America in April 2013, 4 percent fewer TEUs than were exported in April 2012 but 1.2 percent more than the level seen in March 2013. In the first four months of 2013, exports from Far East Asia in this lane increased inched up 0.5 percent year-over-year to 1,201,800 TEUs. Rates in this market as indexed by CTS dropped another 4 points to 76 in April.
Far East Asia to Sub-Saharan Africa
Containerized exports rose 11 percent year-over-year in April 2013, totaling 276,000 TEUs, compared with April 2012’s export volume of 248,500. This lane has seen year-over-year growth for the past half year. Volume was also up 2.3 percent month-to-month from March. Exports through April totaled 1,032,400 TEUs, up 10.8 percent from the same period in 2012. Rates in this market as indexed by CTS fell 1 point to 76.
