John Nardi was named president of the New York Shipping Association, succeeding Joseph C. Curto at the association that represents ocean carriers and marine terminal operators at the Port of New York and New Jersey.
Curto will continue to work with NYSA as an adviser to assist with implementation of certain aspects of the new labor contract with the International Longshoremen’s Association.
Chuck Darrell was appointed to succeed Nardi as executive vice president and chief operating officer., Susan Winfree was named vice president, training and workforce development, and corporate diversity officer.
Nardi has been NYSA’s executive vice president since 2011 and played a key role on the NYSA bargaining committee during the year-long negotiations with the ILA.
A 30-year veteran of the maritime industry, he started with Atlantic Container Line, where he rose to general manager of liner and terminal operations. In 1994 he joined Hapag-Lloyd (America), where he held a series of management positions and was instrumental in the integration of CP Ships’ North American operatiosn into Hapag-Lloyd. He became responsible for Hapag-Lloyd’s Latin and South Ameica operations in 2009.
