A new intermodal terminal in Perron Industrial Park in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, is moving forward, following a groundbreaking ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from CSX and its transportation and intermodal terminal subsidiaries, as well as officials from the City of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and the province of Quebec.
Construction on the $107 million project began in March and is expected to be completed by 2015. Roxboro Excavating, based in Dorval, Quebec, is the lead contractor on the project.
The project will expand CSX’s presence in the market and connect the greater Montreal region and Quebec with CSX Transportation’s rail network in the U.S. When fully operational, the terminal is expected to handle up to 100,000 containers per year, using rubber-tire gantry cranes to transfer containers between trains and trucks.
