Sailing under the French flag, the CMA CGM Jules Verne has been officially inaugurated today by French President François Hollande in Marseille, France.
The 16,000 20-foot-equivalent unit vessel, which is 396 meters (about 1,299 feet) long and 177 feet wide, arrived at Marseille on June 3. It is the third container ship, following Marco Polo and Alexander Von Humboldt, to be delivered to CMA CGM.
The Jules Verne will be deployed on the weekly French Asia Line, also known as FAL 1, linking Asia to North Europe. Beginning June 5, the ship — which has already called at Busan, South Korea; Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Chiwan and Yantian, China; Port Klang, Malaysia; Suez, Egypt; and Malta — will continue its rotation to the ports of Tangier, Morocco; Southampton, England; Hamburg and Bremerhaven, Germany; Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Zeebrugge, Belgium; Le Havre, France; Malta; Suez; Khor Al Fakkan, Oman; Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates; Port Klang; and finally Ningbo.
