Con-way Truckload has purchased 525 new tractors in a replacement cycle that will maintain the full truckload carrier’s 2,700 tractor fleet.
The purchase of 525 new tractors, including 325 Kenworth T680s and 200 Navistar ProStars, will allow for the retiring of the same number of tractors approaching 500,000 miles in service. The new units will be delivered throughout the year, with the 525th scheduled to be on the road by December.
In its evaluation of equipment options, the subsidiary of Con-way asked its driver work force to provide input and feedback on different manufacturers and models. Manufacturers were invited to stage trucks at the company’s five U.S. terminals.
