A CSX freight train derailed Tuesday afternoon in the White Marsh, Md., area in Baltimore County, sparking a fire and causing buildings to collapse.
The Baltimore County Fire Department said on its official Twitter feed that several industrial buildings had collapsed and there was a fire at the scene. The cause of the accident was unknown, Reuters reports.
According to The Baltimore Sun, the derailment caused a loud explosion and sent plumes of smoke into the sky that were visible from downtown Baltimore. CNN, citing a Baltimore County police official, reported a truck was involved.
Initial reports indicated no one was hurt, but hazardous materials teams were responding, according to Twitter posts from the Baltimore Police Department.
