Europe to Far East Asia
Europe exported 570,600 to Far East Asia in March 2013, up 4.4 percent from March 2012 and 5 percent higher than the month before, when it exported 543,100 TEUs. In the first quarter of 2013, European exports to Far East Asia slipped by 0.6 percent year-over-year to 1,631,400 TEUs. The index rate in this market as tracked by CTS fell 1 point to 92 in March.
Europe to Australasia/Oceania
Exports from Europe to Australasia/Oceania climbed 4 percent year-over-year and 10.6 percent month-to-month to 41,900 TEUs in March 2013. In the first three months of 2013, exports from Europe to Australasia/Oceania increased 2.1 percent year-over-year, to 119,800 TEUs. The CTS index of rates in this trade lane remained at 90 in March.
Europe to the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East
Containerized trade from Europe to the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East declined for the sixth straight month year-over-year in March to 265,500 TEUs, down 2 percent compared with the level in March 2012, but 12.4 percent higher than the level seen in February 2013. Exports from Europe in this lane during the first three months of 2013 declined 5 percent year-over-year to 711,300 TEUs. The CTS index fell from 96 in February to 95 in March.
Europe to North America
Containerized trade in this lane inched up 0.6 percent year-over-year in March 2013 and jumped 12 percent compared with February’s volume. Exports from Europe during the first quarter of 2013 totaled 869,300 TEUs, 0.1 percent below the level seen in 2012. The CTS price index stayed flat at 89 in March.
Europe to South/Central America
Europe exported 139,300 TEUs to South and Central America in March 2013, up 5 percent from the level seen in March 2012 and 15 percent from February 2013. Volume has experienced year-over-year increases in this lane for the past four months. In the first three months of 2013, exports from Europe rose 2.5 percent year-over-year to 377,400 TEUs. The index rate in this market as tracked by CTS dropped from 109 to 106 in March.
Europe to Sub-Saharan Africa
Containerized trade increased 4 percent year-over-year in March 2013 to 158,400 TEUs. Volume was also up 14 percent month-to-month. In the first quarter, exports from Europe to sub-Saharan Africa grew 3.7 percent year-over-year, to 424,900 TEUs. The index rate in this market fell 1 point to 74 in March.
