Less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight System will raise general rates and charges 5.9 percent on average May 28.
The general rate increase applies to non-contract work. Rate increases will vary depending on lane and shipment type, but will average 5.9 percent, ABF said Monday.
ABF reported an operating loss of $22.5 million in the first quarter on $407.3 million in revenue. The LTL carrier lost $19.4 million on $1.7 billion in revenue in 2012.
The company and the Teamsters union reached a tentative contract calling for a 7 percent wage cut May 3. ABF's Teamsters employees vote on the deal in June.
ABF Freight System was No. 6 in JOC’s ranking of the Top 25 LTL Carriers for 2012.
