FedEx Trade Networks has broken ground at its future residence, the Riverview Solar Technology Park in Tonawanda, N.Y.
By moving into the park, FedEx Trade Networks, the freight forwarding and customs brokerage branch of FedEx, will consolidate multiple locations and functions. The 25-acre, build-to-suit facility will provide the company with 55,000 square feet of warehouse space and 33,000 square feet of office space across two floors.
The park is about 10 miles from the Canadian border and Ontario, with access to both highways and rail.
FedEx Trade Networks brings $5.2 million to the deal, while New York State has committed $2.56 million in Excelsior tax credits to the build. The Erie County Industrial Development Agency has also granted $1.9 million in tax abatements to the project.
Construction is set to begin this month, and the first employees are projected to move in toward the end of 2013, according to FedEx Trade Networks.
