IMC Companies has reached an agreement to purchase Express America Trucking.
Memphis, Tenn.-based Express America has historically operated in Memphis; Savannah, Ga.; and Charleston, S.C., making it a key acquisition for the trucking transportation company to expand its customer base in these “target markets,” IMC Companies said in a written statement.
Barry Bernard, Express America’s president, will assume a leadership position at Intermodal Cartage Co., one of the Memphis-based brands of IMC Companies.
As part of this acquisition, IMC Companies will welcome 100 professional drivers and nine office staff formerly employed by Express America, as well as key equipment from Express America, including 26 tractors and 56 marine tri-axle chassis trailers. To proactively address any capacity issues, Intermodal Cartage has also ordered 60 new tandem-axle tractors that are expected to be placed into service in June.
