Australasia/Oceania exported 141,300 20-foot-equivalent units to Far East Asia in February 2013, 12.8 percent higher volume than in February 2012 and 22 percent more than in January 2013. Exports to Far East Asia rebounded in February after falling the prior month. In the first two months of 2013, exports in this lane grew 5.4 percent year-over-year to 257,100 TEUs. Rates in this market as tracked by CTS rose 2 points in February 2013 to 124.
Australasia/Oceania to Europe
Exports from Australasia/Oceania to Europe fell 7.5 percent year-over-year to 14,700 TEUs in February 2013. Export volume increased 14 percent from January 2013. In January and February 2013, exports from Australasia/Oceania to Europe declined 7.1 percent year-over-year, to 27,600 TEUs. The CTS index of rates in this trade fell another point to 103.
Australasia/Oceania to the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East
Containerized trade from Australasia/Oceania to the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East declined to 11,900 TEUs in February 2013, down 4.8 percent compared to February 2012, but 4.4 percent higher sequentially. Exports from Australasia/Oceania in this lane during the first two months of 2013 fell 7.2 percent year-over-year to 23,300 TEUs. Rates inched up 2 points to 113 in February.
Australasia/Oceania to North America
Containerized trade in this lane dropped approximately 7 percent year-over-year to 14,900 TEUs in February 2013 from February 2012, and edged down 0.7 percent compared to January 2013. This year’s exports through February from Australasia/Oceania slipped 2.6 percent from the level seen in the same period of 2012, to 29,900 TEUs. The CTS price index decreased by 2 points in February to 96.
Australasia/Oceania to South/Central America
Australasia/Oceania exported 2,200 TEUs to South and Central America in February 2013, down 8.3 percent both year-over-year and month-to-month. In the first two months of 2013, exports from Australasia/Oceania in this lane declined 19.3 percent year-over-year to 4,600 TEUs. Rates in this market as tracked by CTS jumped to 113 in February from 107 in January.
Australasia/Oceania to Sub-Saharan Africa
Containerized trade was up more than 11 percent year-over-year in February 2013 at 3,000 TEUs, compared with February 2012’s export volume of 2,700 TEUs, and rose 3.4 percent from the month prior. In January and February 2013, exports from Australasia/Oceania to sub-Saharan Africa grew 9.3 percent year-over-year, totaling 5,900 TEUs. Rates in this market rose 2 points to 99 in February.
