The Port of Koper, Slovenia, reported container throughput in the first three months of 2013 totaling 146,903 20-foot-equivalent units, a decline of 3.4 percent compared with 152,072 TEUs in the same period in 2012.
Container volume from January to March was 1.40 million tons, up from 1.34 million tons in the year-ago period.
Total cargo year-to-date was 4.48 million tons, up from 4.36 million tons from January to March 2012.
Bojan Brank, the port’s management board president, said in a written statement that the port’s greatest challenge is dredging Basin I at the container terminal. The dredging will allow larger vessels to call at the port.
