United Arab Shipping Company has appointed Lars Christiansen chief trade officer and Uffe Østergaard chief commercial officer, as part of its new transformation and investment program.
The new executives will join the existing executive management team of Waleed Al Dawood, chief operating officer; Basil Al-Zaid, CFO; and Jorn Hinge, president and CEO.
Christiansen is a seven-year veteran of the container carrier. His most recent role was vice president of the Asia region. Before that, he spent 20 years with A.P. Moller-Maersk and also served as management consultant and transportation director with IKEA on its global transportation management team.
Østergaard is joining UASC with more than 20 years of container shipping experience. He previously worked for A.P. Moller-Maersk on strategy, sales and marketing and business development.
“These two appointments represent the start of a reorganization to meet our strategic plan,” Hinge explained in a written statement.
“UASC is preparing for significant changes on the back of new capacity coming into service with a major program of new vessel acquisition,” Hinge continued. “We are repositioning our offering to the market, recapitalizing our business and optimizing our trades.”
The shipping company also plans to establish new offices in Hamburg, Germany, as the center of European operations, and Istanbul, to capture the growing Mediterranean business, UASC said.
