OOCL has ordered 72 battery-powered Terex Gottwald automated guided vehicles, as well as fleet management software and a battery-changing station for the AGVs from Terex Port Solutions.
The automated container-handling equipment will be used in OOCL’s Long Beach Container Terminal in California. The new terminal is currently being constructed by combining and reassigning existing terminal space and other land in the port.
Each AGV has a capacity of 70 metric tons and can transfer all standardn containers, including 45-foot containers, from the ship-to-shore cranes to the yard, or vice versa.
The first batch of vehicles will be delivered to Long Beach in early 2014.
