Germany’s Port of Hamburg will receive a call from the first of eight new 13,380-TEU COSCO container ships.
The Cosco Belgium will be berthing in Hamburg at Container Terminal Tollerort on April 11. Operating under the Hong Kong flag, the vessel is 366 meters (about 1,201 feet) long, 167 feet wide and, when fully loaded, has a draft of 51 feet. It is the first in a series of eight vessels ordered by Cosco from the Chinese NACKS shipyard in April 2008. All of the newbuildings are scheduled for delivery by 2014.
The Cosco Belgium will be deployed on the CKYH Alliance’s weekly Asia to Europe NE3 service from Hamburg and will continue its voyage on April 13 to Antwerp, Belgium, via Yantian, Hong Kong, Xingang, Dalian, Qingdao and Ninbgo in China, followed by Singapore, returning to Hamburg via Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and Felixstowe, United Kingdom. Altogether, 10 ships with slot capacities of 13,000 TEUs operate on this service.
