A major new warehouse construction contract has been awarded at the United Arab Emirates’ gargantuan new trade zone adjacent to the recently opened Khalifa container port in Abu Dhabi.
System Construct will erect phase 1 of pre-built warehousing at Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), located on a site some two-thirds the size of Singapore’s entire land mass and an integral part of Abu Dhabi’s ambitious plan to diversify its economy away from dependence on oil revenue.
The contract is worth just over AED100 million ($27.2 million), with delivery of the first units due in the fourth quarter of this year.
The pre-built warehousing project has been divided into three phases, with a total of 105 units, covering 1,280,000 sq ft. The first phase, now underway, covers an area of 499,834 sq ft.
