Spot rates for high sulfur bunker fuel in Rotterdam rose 0.1 percent or 80 cents in the week of April 5, while low sulfur spot rates inched down 0.04 percent or 23 cents, according to daily Bunkervision price data via international marine fuel oil broker LQM Petroleum Services, Inc. The changes since last week aren't significant in the context of normal volatility in bunker prices
The average price for high sulfur bunker fuel was $608.30 per metric ton during the week of April 5, which is equivalent to about 6.4 barrels or 300 gallons. This spot rate is 13.9 percent lower than the level of $706.50 where it stood at the same time last year. The price is up 2.1 percent or $12.55 since the beginning of 2013.
Low sulfur spot rates in Rotterdam had an average of $623.90 per metric ton last week. This price was down 18.9 percent from the same week in 2012, when it averaged $769.60, but the price is still up 0.4 percent or $2.52 from the first week of 2013.
Both low and high sulfur bunker prices have shown decreases in year-over-year prices for the past half year.
