The Korean Register of Shipping’s general assembly has elected Young-kee Chon as its new chairman and CEO.
The general assembly oversees the running of the register and comprises 86 voting members.
This is the first time in KR’s 53-year history that an internal appointment to chairman and CEO has been made. Chon succeeds Kong-gyun Oh, who served for two three-year terms.
Prior to the election, Chon had served as executive vice president of KR’s technical division since 2007. Chon joined KR in 1981, and has held various positions, including KR country manager in the U.K., head of international affairs and head of KR’s research and development center.
