The Georgia Ports Authority reported February cargo totaled 2.27 million tons, up 147,650 tons, or 6.9 percent, from February 2012.
The Port of Savannah’s traffic surpassed 2 million tons of cargo in February, increasing 45,007 tons, or 2.3 percent, compared to the same month in 2012. Year-over-year, the port added more than 5,000 20-foot-equivalent units in February, for a total of 242,425. February performance was up 4.9 percent compared to January 2013.
In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2013, GPA expects to see further gains in container traffic, both in the wake of successful labor contract negotiations and as the economic recovery continues, said Curtis Foltz, GPA’s executive director, at a board meeting.
