In January and February, Lithuania’s Port of Klaipėda and Būtingės terminal handled 62,879 20-foot-equivalent units, improving 8.3 percent compared with the same period last year.
However, in terms of tonnage, the containerized throughput in January and February fell by 3.3 percent year-over-year.
In the first two months of 2013, the port and terminal handled 7.73 million tons of general cargo, increasing 15.8 percent compared with the same period in 2012, driven by gains in dry and bulk cargoes.
Turnover in the Klaipėda port reached 6.13 million tons, rising by 0.86 million tons, or 16.3 percent year-over-year. Meanwhile, the Būtingės terminal moved 1.6 million tons of cargo, improving by 0.2 milion tons, or 13.9 percent, compared with January and February in the previous year.
