Rickmers-Linie will expand its service at the Port of Philadelphia with the addition of a westbound service connecting Asia, South America and North America, according to Charles G. Kopp, chairman of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority.
The new monthly service will call at the PRPA’s Tioga Marine Terminal, which is operated by Delaware River Stevedores. It will commence immediately, complementing Rickmers’ fortnightly eastbound “Pearl String” service at the port.
In addition to the Port of Philadelphia, the new westbound service will call at the ports of Yokohama, Japan; Masan, South Korea; Xingang, China; Shanghai; Singapore; Cape Town, South Africa; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Rio de Janeiro; Vitoria, Brazil; Savannah, Ga.; and Houston.
Rickmers will employ two to three multipurpose heavy-lift vessels for the new service. Project cargoes will be the primary cargoes handled, including turbines, machine parts, air exchangers and other large items used in the building of factories and other major construction projects.
PRPA will shortly announce when the first vessel will arrive at the Tioga Marine Terminal.
