A new inland port in Greer, S.C., planned by the South Carolina Port Authority, is moving forward, following a recent groundbreaking ceremony with more than 250 port users, stakeholders, community leaders and elected officials in attendance.
Opening this September, the South Carolina Inland Port will extend the reach of SCSPA’s marine facilities 212 miles to the interior.
The Greer container terminal, which is positioned along the I-85 corridor between Charlotte, S.C., and Atlanta, will be linked to the Port of Charleston by the Norfolk Southern main line.
The inland port is also located near the GSP International Airport. The airport has already said it will lease 45 acres of land next to the inland port site to CenterPoint Properties, an intermodal center developer planning to develop up to 750,000 square feet of warehouse space on the property for an undisclosed user, according to South Carolina’s Greenville News.
