The Jacksonville Port Authority board of directors has voted unanimously to inform the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that Jaxport will pursue a harbor deepening project by supplying additional local investment.
The port will request the federal channel to be dredged to a depth of a least 47 feet. The request will be added to the final phases of the corps’ harbor deepening study.
“We must maximize the use of the public assets under our management and we must do so now,” said Roy Schleicher, Jaxport’s interim CEO, in a written statement.
The corps plans to release draft results of its study in May.
