The Georgia Ports Authority reported container tonnage in December 2012 was 1.76 million tons, increasing 4.2 percent year-over-year.
TEU throughput for the month was 219,128 units, an improvement of 2.2 percent, or 4,656 units from December 2011.
Total tonnage across all terminals in December 2012 increased 11.7 percent to 2.27 million tons, the highest performing December ever, said Curtis Foltz, GPA’s executive director, at a board meeting. The total tonnage figure was up more than 238,000 tons compared to the final month of 2011.
For the 2013 fiscal year to date, TEUs were down 1.1 percent at 1.45 million, Foltz said. However, total tonnage rose 4.1 percent to 13.3 million tons for the first half of the fiscal year.
