Stobart Group will discontinue temperature-controlled or “chilled” service as a standalone unit within its transportation and distribution division, the multimodal British transport operator said in its Jan. 17 interim management statement.
The decision will not affect Stobart’s national network solution for shippers, the company said. The transportation and distribution group “continues to perform in an uncertain economic environment” and will focus on cost control in early 2013.
The Eddie Stobart trucking business is the core of the transportation and distribution operation, which also includes warehousing, air transport and port operations. Stobart also has infrastructure, property and biomass divisions.
In the fiscal year that ended Feb. 29, 2012, Stobart’s transportation business reported approximately $822 million in revenue, compared with about $765 million the previous year, according to financial reports and then-current exchange rates.
